Acne Diet Development: Creating the Diet that is Right for Your Skin and Your Stomach

An acne diet is a very interesting idea. We’ve all heard that chocolate gives you pimples. Everybody has. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

However, an acne diet can be a hard thing to develop. This type of diet is highly personal since is is based on each individual’s response to foods. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Write a journal. You might even want to take pictures using a digital camera once or twice a week. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.

Here are some guidelines to get you started on an acne diet:

* You need to increase your protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. Oily skin tends to be more prone to breakouts.

* Don’t eat carbs - Do not take all carbs out of your diet. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because compounds in carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.

* Consume green tea - Drinking the real stuff is the best. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea will limit the creation of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

* Try to limit the amount of salt you intake - Salt most always contains iodine. This is why table salt is usually called “iodized salt.” Of course for some people with acne, iodine can cause big breakouts.

In addition to watching your diet, you should carefully watch what you put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. Look for oil-free moisturizers and natural or organic skin care lines. These being the least likely to aggravate your skin. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. Dermatologists are under the belief that mineral makeup can fully help alleviate your acne problems while enhancing the results of your acne diet.
